The Isaac Conservation Park

Diana Lady Isaac's dream of creating a 1200ha conservation park on the north-west boundary of Christchurch has become a reality with the launch of The Isaac Lakes at Clearwater residential development.

Lady Isaac's legacy is the creation of a special zone defined in the City Plan as an Open Space Conservation Park Zone.

"What this has done is lock away the land inside the Conservation Park from future residential development so that the people of Christchurch and Canterbury will have a wonderful area for passive recreation. Because it adjoins Clearwater it has special benefit for the people living there." she said.

In 1977 the Isaac Wildlife Trust was established by Sir Neil and Lady Isaac. The purpose of the Trust was to create an idyllic and safe environment for New Zealand wildlife. The Diana Isaac Wildlife Trust was subsequently established to develop other parts of the estate for public recreation. Plans include tracks for cycling, walking and horse riding.
